The basis for the patented SmartWire-Darwin communication technology is the new development of an innovative ASIC which assumes the function of the existing I/O level of the PLC. It enables all Moeller switchgear in the motor field to give them Darwin capabilities – devices with minimum data volumes (e.g. indicator lights and pushbuttons) as well as high-performance devices (e.g. frequency inverters and circuit-breakers) with large communication data volumes. It offers maximum performance in a minimum of space for the lowest of process.

Performance features:

• Highest level of performance can be adapted to the smallest space
• Intelligence on board
• 99 devices, can extend to up to 100 m per master
• Data transfer rate up to 4 Mbit
• Data volumes: 1024 byte cyclic for I/O and 32 Kbytes acyclic.

Consequently, no particular know-how or special software is required for mounting and commissioning. Wiring faults and troubleshooting are ruled out.

Today Darwin Technology connects contactors and motor starters as well as control and signalling devices. The next phase involves the connection of visualization components, power switch circuit breakers and drives.
